The Supreme Court of Wyoming issued a ruling that upholds the right of people in Wyoming to access abortion care. Julie Burkhart, President of Wellspring Health Access – Wyoming’s only abortion clinic and a plaintiff in the lawsuit – issued the following statement in response to today’s decision:
“Today, The Wyoming Supreme Court affirmed what we’ve always known to be true: abortion is essential health care, and the government should not interfere in personal decisions about our health. This ruling is a victory for the fundamental right of people across Wyoming to make decisions about their own lives and health. Our clinic will remain open and ready to provide compassionate reproductive health care, including abortion, and our patients in Wyoming will be able to obtain this care without having to travel out of state.
“While we celebrate today’s ruling, we know that anti-abortion politicians will continue their push to restrict access to health care in Wyoming with new, harmful proposals in the state legislature. Patients should not have to live in fear that their health care decisions will be suddenly upended at the whim of a judge or lawmaker. We will keep fighting against medically unnecessary restrictions and barriers to abortion access so that all Wyomingites can get the care they need in their communities.”
